Minnehaha County’s Warrant Resolution Court: Clearing Backlogs and Offering a Path Forward

In an effort to address outstanding warrants and streamline the legal process, Minnehaha County in South Dakota has introduced the innovative Warrant Resolution Court. This pilot program aims to provide individuals with an opportunity to resolve non-violent arrest warrants and misdemeanor bench warrants without the burden of fees or the fear of arrest.

The Purpose of Warrant Resolution Court

The Warrant Resolution Court specifically targets low-level offenses, allowing participants to clear their records and move forward. Whether it’s a traffic violation, a pet-related issue, or a city ordinance violation, this court session offers a chance for resolution.

Scheduled Sessions: The court holds scheduled sessions during which individuals can address their warrants.

Judge and Staff: A judge and court staff are present to facilitate the process.

Consultation: Attorneys from the Minnehaha County State’s Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, and Public Advocates Office are available for consultation.

Resolution: Participants can arrange due dates for fines, schedule new court appearances, or even resolve their cases completely during the session.

  • Traffic violations
  • No insurance
  • Pet violations
  • City ordinance violations
