Coronation Timetable: An Hour-by-Hour Guide to King Charles’ Historic Day

On Saturday 6th May, 2023, King Charles III and Queen Camilla will be officially crowned in an historic ceremony at Westminster Abbey. The coronation of the new monarchs is set to be a grand affair with a full schedule of events taking place throughout the day. Here’s an hour-by-hour guide to the day’s proceedings.

6am: Public Viewing Areas Open

The public viewing areas along the main procession route will open at 6am, giving people the chance to get up close and personal with the royal family as they make their way from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey. It’s expected that thousands of people will line the streets of London for this once in a lifetime event.

7:15am: Westminster Abbey Guests Arrive

At 7:15am, guests will begin arriving at Westminster Abbey for the coronation ceremony. These include members of both Houses of Parliament, representatives from Commonwealth countries and other distinguished figures from around the world. It’s expected that over 2000 people will attend this special occasion.

10:20am: Royal Procession Begins

At 10:20am local time (5:20am eastern), King Charles and Queen Camilla will leave Buckingham Palace in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach and travel through central London on their way to Westminster Abbey. This is sure to be a spectacular sight as they pass by some of London’s most iconic landmarks including Trafalgar Square, Whitehall and Horse Guards Parade.

11am – 12pm: Coronation Ceremony

The coronation ceremony itself is set to take place between 11am and 12pm local time (6am – 7am eastern). During this time, King Charles III will be crowned with St Edward’s Crown while Queen Camilla will receive her own crown known as The Imperial State Crown. This part of the ceremony is sure to be filled with pomp and pageantry as it marks a major milestone in British history.

1pm – 2pm: Reception & Lunch at Buckingham Palace

After being officially crowned, King Charles III and Queen Camilla will return to Buckingham Palace for a reception and lunch hosted by Her Majesty The Queen Consort Elizabeth II. This is sure to be an intimate affair attended by close family members only as they celebrate this momentous occasion together.

3pm – 4pm: Balcony Appearance & Flypast

At 3pm local time (10am eastern), King Charles III and Queen Camilla are set to appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace alongside other members of the royal family including Prince William, Duchess Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. This is sure to be an emotional moment for all involved as they wave proudly from above while planes fly past in celebration of their coronation day.

5pm – 6pm: Service at St Paul’s Cathedral & Fireworks Display

At 5pm local time (12 noon eastern), King Charles III and Queen Camilla are due attend a service at St Paul’s Cathedral before heading back outside for a fireworks display over London’s skyline which is expected to last until 6pm local time (1pm eastern).
