Bangkok: A shooting occurred at a children’s hospital in Thailand’s Nong Bua Lamphu province. It was reported that 34 people including 22 children were killed in this incident. The shooter is said to be a 34-year-old ex-police officer who committed suicide following the shooting. Officials said that 12 more people were injured.

The shooter was reportedly fired from the police force for reasons related to a drug case. Officials say about 30 children were at the center when he opened fire at lunchtime. And the district official said he first shot four or five staff members, including a teacher who was eight months pregnant. The police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.

Although the rate of gun ownership is high compared to other countries in the region, and illegal weapons are common, it is considered extremely rare for someone to shoot someone in Thailand. Earlier in 2020, at least 29 people were killed in a shooting by a security force angry over a property deal. 57 others were injured.
