Zerodha, India’s largest online stock broker, emerged victorious in the second edition of the Unicorn Premier League (UPL), a cricket tournament for the country’s top unicorn startups. Zerodha beat Flipkart, the e-commerce giant, by six wickets in the final match held in Bengaluru on February 28, 2024.
A dominant performance by Zerodha
Zerodha won the toss and chose to field first, a decision that proved to be fruitful as they restricted Flipkart to a modest total of 88 runs in 11 overs. Flipkart’s batting line-up struggled to cope with Zerodha’s bowling attack, which was led by Tanzil, who took three wickets and conceded only 12 runs in his three overs. Vishal was the only batsman who showed some resistance, scoring 42 runs off 24 balls for Flipkart.
Chasing a low target, Zerodha did not face much trouble as they reached the required runs in just 8.2 overs. Rajesh was the star of the show, smashing 35 runs off 16 balls, including four sixes and two fours. He was well supported by Marvin and Ashith, who scored 22 and 19 runs, respectively. Zerodha celebrated their victory with joy and lifted the UPL 2024 trophy.
Awards and accolades for the players
Several players from different teams received awards and accolades for their outstanding performances throughout the tournament. Yashas Kartik from Pine Labs won the Orange Cap for scoring the highest runs in the tournament, with a total of 249 runs in six matches. He also received an electric bike from Bounce, the electric scooter manufacturer, as a prize.
Devesh from Meesho was named the Purple Cap winner for taking the most wickets in the tournament, with a tally of 10 wickets in six matches. He also got an electric bike from Bounce as a reward.
Tanzil from Zerodha bagged the Player of the Tournament award for his all-round contribution of 142 runs and eight wickets in six matches. He was presented with a Hyundai Xcent car from Spinny, the pre-owned car retail platform, as a gift.
