UN principal Antonio Guterres condoles Lata Mangeshkar’s death: ‘Voice of the subcontinent’

UN principal Antonio Guterres has condoled the death of the famous Indian vocalist, Lata Mangeshkar, who “absolutely had actually been the voice of the subcontinent”. Mangeshkar is counted as one of India’s greats with an estimated 30,000 songs in a nearly eight-decade profession, who died in Mumbai on Sunday. She was 92.

The UN Assistant General’s Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq informed PTI on Tuesday that Guterres “revealed his condolences to her family and to the people of India, over the loss of a person who had really been the voice of the subcontinent.”

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador T S Tirumurti on Sunday stated the death of Mangeshkar is an “irreplaceable loss to the country. An irreplaceable loss to the world of songs”.

” Bharat Ratna #LataMangeshkar will live in our hearts for life,” he stated.

Requiring Twitter, Assistant-Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of UN Female Anita Bhatia on Sunday said Mangeshkar, “the Nightingale of India, disappears. We mourn the death of this remarkable female, a music tale whose stunning voice is indelibly engraved in our memories & our hearts.”

Diaspora organization Federation of Indian Organizations– New York City, New Jersey, and Connecticut likewise condoled the demise of Mangeskar, who was known as the ‘Nightingale of India’.

“The sweet-sounding voice of the legend Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar ji will deal with us permanently. Deepest acknowledgments to her family members & fans around the globe,” FIA claimed.
